AutonetMagz – Probably McLaren aware that its the time to replace the 650S with a new supercar. Not to mentions they will face a fierce competition from the Lamborghini Huracan Performante who said to become the new King of Nurburgring. Now, the new McLaren 720S arrive to replace the 650 S to sit at the McLaren Super Series who positioned above the Sports Series (570S, 540c dan 570GT) and Ultimate Series (P1, P1 GTR).
If the McLaren 650S shows the laziness of McLaren designer by fitting a P1 deign at the MP4-12C body, the new McLaren 720S were totally different, as they decide to build a new design who didn’t look like other McLaren car. The final reslut couldn’t be said as a beauty, but really good for a McLaren.
Just like other McLaren (Except 570S), the new 720S apply the good looking butterfly doors, and a lot of floating fins detail at the fender along with 720S emblem. As a lot of air vents at the front bumper aligned with the rear twin exhaust at the brake lamp, and a bigger spoiler.
Behind the design, a carbon fiber monocoque body who much more lighter than the old chassis. They also not forget to make the car greet the driver, just get near the car with the key in your pocket, the cabin, side lights, and main lights will go on, along with an opening side mirror and engine bay with red color.
The interior meanwhile was made more comfortable, ergonomic and supportive. A new toys in this model is a pop-up instrument panel when applying a ‘Track’ driving mode. When its hidden, only the main information displayed, like the gear position, RPM and speed, as on the Normal mode, it will stand straight and showing a lot more information.
But the most interesting one is the new 4.0 liter engine V8. With over 41% of new component including the turbo, the engine could produce 710 hp and 770 Nm far much bigger than the Ferrari 488 GTB and Lamborghini Huracan Performante. Not only that, with 1.282 tonnes of weight, the 720S are much lighter, which improve its acceleration with 2.8 seconds for 0-100 km/h.
The top speed at 341 Km/h achieved with additional control improvement such as brake steer system who activated individually to aid the car to turn, a magnetorheological damper, dual clutch gearbox with 7-speed, an electro-hydraullic power steering and Proactive Chassis Control II who apply an algorithm set by University of Cambridge.
The new things on the McLaren 720S is the availability of Variable Drift Control System, just like a Drift Mode on the Ford Focus RS, who enables you to drift the car like Ken Block. We just couldn’t wait to see the battle between McLaren vs Ferrari vs Lamborghini Vs Porsche.
